TNPCB’s Manjappai Mela to Address Textile Waste into Bags

The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) organized the Meendum Manjappai Mela at the Besant Nagar Manjappai Kiosk.

The mela witnessed enthusiastic participation from the general public and youth, with around 100 members bringing their old clothes to be transformed into reusable cloth bags on the spot. Fashion technology students stitched the bags, giving discarded fabric a new life as sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives to plastic bags.

Additionally, about 100 kilograms of clothes collected during the event were donated to an NGO for distribution to underprivileged communities.

This initiative emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental protection and showcased how collective action can help reduce waste and revive traditional practices. Participants appreciated the event and expressed interest in organizing similar initiatives regularly.
