Tamil Nadu on path towards a Global AI Hub: IT Secretary at CII Connect 2024

Chennai, December 18, 2024: “As Tamil Nadu continues to lead in Artificial Intelligence and Digital Governance, it is  proposed to create a Tamil Nadu-specific small-scale Large Language Model (LLM) to address the challenges of translating government documents and ensuring precise legal interpretations,” said Mr Kumar Jayant, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary,

Department of IT and Digital Services, Government of Tamil Nadu, at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) 22nd Edition of CII Connect 2024, with the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Action.”  
“There should be an integration of AI-powered systems, such as facial recognition for attendance in schools and healthcare centers, to enhance accountability and operational efficiency in public services,” he added.

“IIT Madras has over 380 startups and a valuation exceeding INR 50,000 crores. I urge greater industry collaboration, and support startups with purchase orders and programs that inspire students to pursue careers in AI and data science. Every child in our country deserves the chance to atleast be an undergraduate,” said Dr V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras in his speech.
He stressed on the importance of education in driving India’s technological future while sharing IIT Madras’ efforts to bridge gaps in rural learning through the Vidya Shakti program, which now operates in over 750 centers.

CII Connect 2024 celebrated outstanding achievements across diverse fields, honoring trailblazers with prestigious awards. Mr Raju Venkataraman, a distinguished serial entrepreneur, received the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his exceptional contributions to innovation and leadership. The Global Influencer Award was presented to Mr Venkat Viswanathan, Founder and Chairperson of LatentView Analytics, Ms Mridula Ramesh, Founder of Sundaram Climate Institute, was named Woman Achiever of the Year for her pioneering work in climate action and sustainability.

Exemplary entrepreneurs like Mr Anil Kumar SG, Founder & CEO of Samunnati, Mr Srinath Ravichandran and Mr Moin SPM, Co-Founders of AgniKul Cosmos, received the Exemplary Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneur of the Year awards respectively while, Saint Gobain Pvt Ltd and the Tamil Nadu e-Governance Agency (TNeGA) were recognized for their Exemplary Application of Technology in the private and public sectors, underscoring their commitment to leveraging technology for transformative impact.

CII Connect 2024 concluded with a renewed commitment to fostering partnerships and scaling new heights in the application of AI for societal and economic progress by showcasing the achievements and innovations within the industry, gathering over 500 industry delegates and featuring 45 esteemed speakers.
