Chennai, October 24. 2023: At the launch of this special facility, Dr. Chandrakumar. N, H.O.D, neonatology, KKCTH said at Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital, will enable this NICU to provide continuum of neonatal care from birth which ensures intact long-term survival for newborns who are born too early and are also at high risk. This high-risk newborn and obstetric care team will comprise of Senior Consultant Neonatologists Dr. Chandrakumar. N and Dr. Vaanathi. V & leading obstetricians with high-risk obstetric care practice in Chennai and within TN.

The function was graced by few leading obstetricians from Chennai. At the inauguration Dr. Jaishree Gajaraj, Senior consultant, OG addressed the media and the students present, and said the proportion of pregnancies that can be classified as high risk is increasing parallel to this is an increasing need for well equipped, dedicated birthing units supported by state of the art Neonatal facilities which are available at KKCTH.

Dr Anitha Parthasarathy, Senior consultant – OG said ‘ It’s always better to shift the high risk mothers in utero – for optimized care for mother and baby where time is of the essence.

Dr. Jeyarani Kamaraj, Senior consultant, OG & president OGSSI said that this is a very important development not only in Chennai but will help patients in nearby areas including AP. She stressed that it is imperative that both mother and child are given equal importance in critical care before delivery.

Dr. Saritha Vinod, MD, Vinitha hospital was happy to be a part of the venture as a combined team to deliver high risk maternity services at KKCTH.

Dr. Janani Sankar, MD, KKCTH – addressed the gathering stating that this was a dream project that was successfully launched.

Dr. R. Shanmugasundaram, renowned Senior consultant Neonatologist, father of neonatology, TN address the gathering and honoured the inaugural ceremony. He stressed that this an essential part of every neonatal unit to provide Golden hour care at its best for both mother and baby.
