Chennai, 22 May 2026: Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital in Chennai, one of India’s leading non-profit tertiary care children’s hospitals, today announced the inauguration of its newly renovated General Ward, supported through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contribution from HDFC Asset Management Company.

The renovated ward was inaugurated on 18 May 2026 by Mr. Alok Sheopurkar, Head – Human resources, HDFC AMC, in the presence of hospital trustees, doctors, staff members, and guests.

The renovation project, completed at a cost of approximately ₹40 lakhs, has transformed the hospital’s General Ward into a bright, airy, child-friendly, and patient-centric healing space. The upgraded facilities include modernized patient rooms with cheerful child-friendly motifs and fully renovated bathrooms designed to improve comfort, hygiene, and convenience for children and their caregivers.

The General Ward, with 34 beds, serves as the most affordable inpatient accommodation in the hospital and caters predominantly to children from economically disadvantaged families across Tamil Nadu and neighboring states. The renovation is expected to significantly improve the experience of hospitalization for thousands of children and parents every year.

Established over four decades ago, Kanchi Kamakoti CHILDS Trust Hospital is a 200-bed non-profit tertiary care teaching hospital dedicated exclusively to children from birth to 18 years of age. The hospital offers comprehensive pediatric specialties under one roof, including pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care, pediatric surgery, cardiac surgery, hematology-oncology, and bone marrow transplantation.

The hospital is widely recognized for its commitment to affordable and ethical healthcare for underprivileged children, as well as for excellence in pediatric education and research. It has received several national recognitions and continues to provide substantial free and concessional care to children from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sheopurkar explained HDFC AMC’s commitment to supporting socially relevant causes. Dr. Janani Sankar, Medical Director, and Mr. Sankar Ramani, head of Fundraising for the Hospital, expressed their gratitude to HDFC AMC for their past and current support of an initiative that directly benefits vulnerable children and families by creating a more compassionate and healing environment within the General Ward.

The hospital noted that partnerships between socially responsible organizations and healthcare institutions play a crucial role in improving access to quality pediatric healthcare for underserved communities.
